Berlin, Maryland has a rich history as a small town on the Eastern Shore. Its origins date back to the late 17th century, when the area was settled by English colonists. Originally named "New Town," it was later renamed "Berlin" in the early 19th century, possibly influenced by the city in Germany.

Peach farming has played a significant role in Berlin's agricultural heritage. The region's fertile soil and favorable climate made it ideal for growing peaches, and the town became known as the "Peach Capital of the World" during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

At its peak, Berlin was home to numerous peach orchards and canning factories. The town's economy thrived on the peach industry, and its annual Peach Festival celebrated the harvest and showcased the town's agricultural abundance. Berlin peaches were highly regarded and shipped across the country.

However, like many agricultural communities, Berlin's peach industry faced challenges over time. Factors such as competition from other peach-growing regions, changing market demands, and urbanization led to a decline in peach farming. Many orchards were converted into other land uses, and the town's focus shifted to tourism and small-scale farming.

Today, while Berlin's peach farming industry is not as prominent as it once was, the town still cherishes its agricultural heritage. The annual Peach Festival continues to be held, celebrating Berlin's history and showcasing local produce. Some peach orchards still operate in the surrounding area, contributing to the local agricultural scene and providing a connection to the town's past.

Bennett's Orchards, a proud family-run farm that works hard all year to deliver you the greatest product, is one of our favorite peach farmers in the Delmarva region. Throughout the summer, you can find them at all of the farmers markets around the coast. You can also visit their farm with your entire family to enjoy blueberry, peach, or nectarines picking! Additionally, you may notice Bennett's Orchards produce featured at your favorite local restaurants in their entrees, desserts, or cocktails YUM!!
