Spring cleaning isn’t just for the springtime!

I love watching Home Edit and seeing a cluttered space transform into an organized, beautiful, and functional space. Whether you are an avid Home Edit viewer like me and find decluttering and organizing very fulfilling or dread the thought of tackling any organization project, I have just the tips for you!

1. Take it one step at a time

Instead of waiting for spring cleaning, I recommend cleaning out cabinets, closets, and junk drawers every 6 months. The more you do it, the less you have to organize! My favorite times of year to regroup are in the spring and fall. But remember you don’t have to do everything at once! Take it one closet, one drawer, or one cabinet at a time and spread it out over a few weeks. This way you don’t feel overwhelmed.

2. Less is more

To minimize the amount you have to clean each time, donate things when you buy new ones. This will also help you avoid overstuffing your closets. This tactic can even apply to the kitchen! Every grocery trip, go through the fridge and pantry and assess what is expired and needs to be thrown away to make room for the new food items. Or if you notice you have canned goods that aren’t expired, but you're not using them, donate them to your local food banks!

3. Color coordination

I love rainbow-themed closets! Besides the fact that it is aesthetically pleasing, keeping similar colors together makes it easier to find what you are looking for.

4. Lighting, lighting, lighting!

This may be a given, but bright lighting is so important in closets and cabinets. Whether the space is organized or not, there is no way you will be able to find anything quickly in poor lighting!

5. Storage

Baskets, bins, and labels are everything when it comes to organizing and saving space! Baskets are a great way to organize those items you use every day and bins with lids are a great way to store your seasonal items or things that you won’t need daily. In my kitchen, I use baskets and keep similar items together.

6. Folding vs. rolling

Another great way to save space is by rolling your clothing items! My dresser drawers look so much neater, and it is easier to find what I am looking for!

There are countless benefits to organizing the spaces in your home, most importantly it makes things easier to find and clean! But beyond that, I find it so rewarding and I hope you do too.

Shout out to my husband who built my amazing closet you see pictured above!
