Spring is right upon us, so what should we be doing to prepare ourselves for this upcoming season?
If you’re anything like me I cannot wait for
spring and summer to be here but what could we do in the early spring to
prepare for our warmer weather, especially when some of the days are still
cloudy or wet? Here are a few ideas for you! After all the say spring is a time
for renewal and growth, and that applies to many things not only just your
garden.
Spring cleaning and
decluttering: This is the ideal season to get rid of items you no longer
use or need. Clean and organize your home, including the garage, closets, and
drawers. Anything you no longer need can be recycled, sold, or donated. This
practice will not only make your home feel wonderful but also your mind will
feel a little more at ease, then you’ll truly be able to relax and bask in that
glorious sunshine.
Gardening: The
beginning of spring is a great time to start your garden. When preparing your
garden beds, think about what you want to cultivate. Prepare the garden tools, repair
and nurture the soil, here in Fenwick Island DE we are in zone 7 so be sure to
choose your plants and flowers strategically and read your labels at your local
markets. To begin the growing season early, you can also start seeds indoors
and transfer them into your garden when they’re ready.
Outdoor activities:
As the weather warms up, you might want to get ready for outdoor pursuits like
bicycling, hiking, picnics or camping. Make sure you are prepared with the
right clothing, footwear and equipment. This is also a perfect opportunity to
get your water sports equipment ready such as cleaning off your kayaks, paddle
boards or your cooler. I personally get my surfboards ready along with a
waterproof container sorted and stored in my car with an extra pair of bikini's or boardshorts, a couple bars of surf wax, different sized surf leashes, sunscreens and towels. This will basically live in
my car from spring till fall for those unexpected surf sessions with your
friends or a spontaneous beach day with your kids, just make sure you wash your
stuff and replace them each time.
Spring maintenance of
your home: After a long winter, spring cleaning is a terrific way to
revitalize your home but now we are talking about spring cleaning as in the up
keep maintenances of your home. Yes! It’s something that some of us may not enjoy
doing but if you look at it as “investing” your time and energy maintaining
your home, you will reap the benefits of your labor later on, trust me! I recommend,
window washing, power washing, blind cleaning, carpet cleaning and gutter
cleaning, this is also a great time to check your smoke alarms, change your air
filters and prep your outdoor shower area.
Health and wellbeing:
Spring is a perfect time to put your health and wellbeing in the forefront.
Think about new places you’d like to visit outdoors or beginning a new workout
regimen maybe picking up a new interest or hobby such as mediating, hiking, yoga,
journaling or arts & crafts.
Whatever it is you may choose to be doing this spring, I hope
and wish you well for this upcoming season and don’t forget to take the time
for yourself to enjoy it!
